City of Henderson Drinking Water Improvements Project

Title:  City of Henderson Drinking Water Improvements Project
Costs: $5,800,000-Design and Construction of filtration plant and connection to the existing well and water distribution system
Congressional Directed Spending Request: $4,640,000

City of Henderson Match:  $1,160,000

Description and Need:  The project is a public infrastructure project to improve drinking water addressing residential concerns about water quality and eliminate the negative effects that result due to the current elevated levels of iron and manganese in the City of Henderson water supply.  These elevated levels of minerals results in water complaints, staining of fixtures, clogged pumps and sprinklers, metallic taste, and sediment buildup within the distribution system.  The sediment buildup can cause decreased water pressure which can be problematic for the local fire department.

The city does not have a water treatment system plant but adds chemicals directly to well water prior to the water entering the distribution system.  Construction of a filtration plant will be required to remove these minerals before they enter the drinking water system.

Implementation of this project would improve city and private infrastructure and equipment so that it could operate at flll capacity.  Additionally, addressing the issues with the water infrastructure would help support much needed new housing growth in the community and help the local work force and employment needs.
